Diego Reyes is no longer associated with FC Porto and is a free agent in the transfer market after his contract with Portuguese club expired.
Spanish website Estadio Deportivo claims West Ham United are ‘following’ the Mexican international. The Hammers have already strengthened their defence by signing Issa Diop and Fabián Balbuena, who arrived at the club from Toulouse and Corinthians respectively.
New West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to further strengthen his side’s back four, according to the claims. The report claims the former Manchester City boss has identified Reyes as a target, and that creates problems for the Spanish clubs interested.
Estadio Deportivo reports Real Betis and Sevilla are keen, but West Ham interest ‘gets in the way’.
Pablo Machin’s side are looking to replace Clement Lenglet, who left Sevilla for Barcelona. In addition to this, Lorenzo Serra Ferrer is also hoping to convince Reyes to join Betis.
Any club who manages to land Reyes will have a player in their squad who has made over 50 appearances for Mexico at 25.
It’s also stated West Ham are a problem for Sevilla regarding a pursuit of Domagoj Vida too, but surely the Hammers can’t be signing all the central defenders in the market.
Interestingly, Reyes impressed during one of the West Ham’s Porto scouting trips last season.
