Kevin Wimmer got less than half the Premier League minutes at Tottenham last season than he did during the previous campaign, which won’t have exactly been the scenario he was expecting.
It wasn’t made up by games in other competitions, and it’s clear to see that whilst Mauricio Pochettino may like Wimmer, he clearly doesn’t rate the 24 year old highly enough to put him in the team when given an opportunity.
Therefore, Wimmer’s comments this week suggesting a move have obviously made their way around the Europe media, and found a welcoming home in Cologne.
FC Koln have long been linked with signing the defender back from Tottenham, and now looks the time to do it. The Cologne newspaper Express have asked fans of the club if they’d like Wimmer back, more than 10,000 responded and around 80% backed the idea.
Express believe Wimmer is flirting with FC Koln over a return to the club, and his comments back that up… the feeling seems to be mutual.
FC Koln will first want to secure Anthony Modeste’s drawn out move to China, before any Wimmer attempt. The German club are expecting €35m+, and a not too big chunk of that could land them Wimmer, although Tottenham will be aware of the China money and want as much as possible.
