Matviy Ponomarenko is of interest to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City, according to claims coming from Ukraine on Monday.

The 19-year-old currently plays for Dynamo Kyiv and came through the youth system at the club. He’s not played many games so far, and it’s something of a leap to feel the Ukraine U20 international could go straight into a Premier League team, or even Championship in the case of Leicester City next season.

Therefore, this may be an idea for the future with Wolves or Leicester looking to sign him and then rent the player back to his current club, or loan him elsewhere.

Ukraine journalist Mikhail Spivakovsky reports via Dynamo.Kiev.UA that interest is growing in the youngster. He name-checked both Wolves and the Foxes directly, before saying the player is also receiving interest from unnamed clubs in Portugal, Spain and Belgium.

The Ukraine season works on different annual calendars to much of Europe, and Ponomarenko is on a contract which lasts until January. He’ll be able to start pre-contract talks with other clubs in a couple of months.
