In mid January of this year, Miron Muslic arrived at Plymouth Argyle with the aim to try and save the club from Championship relegation and to then build from there. It was a quick opportunity for the 42-year-old, who had been fired by Cercle Brugge the previous December.
Muslic wasn’t able to drag Plymouth Argyle up the Championship table and they ultimately finished second from bottom, falling to the third tier of English football. A win against Liverpool in the FA Cup was easily the highlight of the season and helped bring some attention to the young manager.
2. Bundesliga giants Schalke have moved in for Muslic, and he’s expressed his desire to leave and try his hand with what is considered one of Germany’s biggest clubs, although they’ve been in something of a death spiral for years. This year they finished 14th in the second division and much better is expected.
Sky Deutschland report that despite Muslic having a €1.2m (so presumably £1m) release clause in his Plymouth Argyle contract, Schalke will be paying less.
According to their information, Schalke will be paying ‘a high six-figure sum plus bonuses’, in Euros. That’s still considered a big commitment from the club, and presumably at least some of the bonuses relate to getting Schalke back to Germany’s top flight.
