Last week, Corriere dello Sport reported on West Ham interest in Cagliari striker Roberto Piccoli.
The Hammers made initial contact for the player and were facing competition from Benfica, with the Italian side demanding around €30m for a transfer this summer.
Gazzetta dello Sport report today that West Ham are at the forefront for the 24-year-old’s signature and in the past few hours have made contact to explore Piccoli’s situation further.
They also indicate that Cagliari want a fee of €30m and this is proving to be too much for Italian sides who are also keen on the forward. That is a key reason for why West Ham would be leading the race for Piccoli.
There have been indications from the local press that Graham Potter’s side will be able to pay around €25m for Piccoli and that Cagliari’s asking price is not a major obstacle.
The Italian side signed him permanently from Atalanta for €12m last month after an initial loan there during the 2024/25 season.
