West Brom’s last week of the transfer window was a scattergun mess. But not everything was bad, despite several failed deals.
One transfer the club did get over the line was Nacer Chadli from Tottenham Hotspur, for a club record fee.
Given everything else that was happening at the end of the window, Chadli’s move didn’t get the attention it perhaps deserved.
Relegated to a supporting cast member at Tottenham, the Belgium international took the chance to show what he could do when given the stage, and try and impress new national manager Roberto Martinez.
He’s starting off well and scored twice at the weekend, as West Brom beat West Ham 4-2. That doesn’t tell the full story and Chadli’s contribution was very impressive indeed, with Tony Pulis surely thrilled with his late purchase from Tottenham.
Despite coming off with around 20 minutes to go, after picking up a knock, Chaldi did enough to make Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.
The West Brom star finds himself in a team also including Lionel Messi, Edinson Cavani and Antoine Griezmann.
