Edoardo Bove
Rome, Italy 4th May 2025: Edoardo Bove of ACF Fiorentina during SERIE A 2024-25 football match between AS Roma vs ACF Fiorentina at the Olimpico Stadium

In the January transfer window, Sport Witness closely monitored the situation of Edoardo Bove as he joined Watford.

He arrived on a free transfer and made his debut for the Hornets against Preston at the weekend. It was his first minute on the pitch in over 12 months, as he last played a game of football back in December 2024.

A heart issue stopped him from playing in Italy, ending his spell at AS Roma. It came as a big disappointment for the midfielder, who is a childhood Giallorossi supporter. That is why the move to Watford is a chance to prove himself again.

Bove’s agent Diego Tavano has now spoken about the transfer in a chat with FanPage.

Bove had offers before he joined Watford

The agent added a lot of details about his move to Vicarage Road, revealing how Watford first came forward back in the summer.

He told the outlet, revealing Gianluca Nani’s key role in the deal: “We really liked Watford because they’d called me back in August, when everything was up in the air. I was surprised. It was still early, but they inquired. Director Gianluca Nani made an initial call, but we postponed it until the winter transfer window because it wasn’t possible.”

Tavano disclosed that playing in London and the promise of playing in the Premier League proved decisive for Bove.

“Then the fact that it was London, the Championship, which can immediately open the doors to the Premier League, convinced us, more than any other financial considerations.”

He also revealed that the former Roma player rejected other offers before joining Watford.

“Important offers arrived from the MLS and other European clubs, but we left the choice up to him also because a combination of coincidences convinced us. I’m close to him.”

Tavano was also asked about Bove’s goals with the Hornets. He responded: “I’m only interested in seeing him with his smile.

“I don’t care if he makes it to Manchester United or the national team. I know it would be important for him, but I only care that he’s well and happy. That’s what really matters.”

Tavano speaks about Bove debut

The agent had some emotional words to say about the 23-year-old’s Watford debut. He believes that the wait to return to action felt longer than it was to the player

“It was a day of rebirth, a bit, right? Because it’s 440 days, but they were long. Maybe they represent a year and two months, but for us they seemed much longer, much longer. It was a rollercoaster ride, a series of emotions that’s hard to describe.”

Everything suggests that the moment was very special for not just Bove but everyone around him.

The Italian was actually quite highly rated during his time at Roma, having broken through under Jose Mourinho. Even at Fiorentina, things were going right before he suffered the cardiac arrest.

Bove has the ability to cover a lot of ground in midfield and can also chip in with important goals. In Florence, he also played at number ten, having operated deeper at Roma.

All of this can prove quite important for Watford. They have a proven midfielder in their side and will hope that he helps them in their promotion bid.
