As Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting continue to discuss the transfer of Pedro Porro, with a new meeting scheduled for today, we now get to see some of the issues which have been blocking this deal.

That situation is detailed by newspaper Record, who claim that despite promising to pay the €45m demanded by the Lions, Spurs actually tried alternative ways of reaching that amount.

The outlet claims Tottenham tried to sign Porro with an offer of €40m plus €5m in bonuses. That even goes against a promise Sporting made to their manager Ruben Amorim, when they claimed they’d only lose the player for the price of his release clause.

The other issue is the payment method. The Lions would like to receive the money in the short term, while Spurs’  want to split payments which could see things being dragged out ‘very far’, and that’s something the Lisbon side simply don’t accept.

With new talks today, those are apparently the big issues to be solved. Recent reports have been claiming Porro has already given Tottenham his approval, and it’s now a matter of convincing Sporting.
