On February 13th, Gazzetta dello Sport stated Tottenham Hotspur have already sent their scouts to watch Genoa star Albert Guðmundsson. Later that day, Calciomercato reported the north London club will have a good chance to sign the 26-year-old in the summer.
Two days ago, Tuttosport stated Spurs have to battle it out with Juventus for the attacking midfielder’s signature.
NapoliCalcio24 now state Tottenham will be joined by the Old Lady, Fiorentina, AS Roma, Napoli and AC Milan in the transfer chase.
Fiorentina showed interest in the Iceland international in January but weren’t able to meet the Italian club’s requests.
Genoa CEO Andres Blasquez has stated Guðmundsson can leave in the summer if there’s an offer of around €35m. The outlet relays his quotes and then questions who will be able to secure the player’s services.
He’s scored 11 goals and registered three assists from 25 matches this season. Fiorentina will return for Guðmundsson and if he were to continue to shine, more clubs will join the battle in the summer.
Juventus, Roma, Napoli and AC Milan have all looked at the Icelandic in recent weeks, along with Tottenham.
His agents also play a role in managing Guglielmo Vicario and Radu Drăgușin, who moved to Spurs in the last two windows. The latter even joined them from Genoa, adding another similarity.
It’s claimed the agent’s ‘direct line’ with Tottenham has ‘inevitably brought the attention’ of the Premier League side on Guðmundsson. This could give them an advantage over other clubs in the transfer race.
Guðmundsson is available for €35m and for that price, the outlet claims it’s ‘more of an opportunity than risk’.
