As the old adage goes, Radu Dragușin’s transfer to Tottenham won’t be complete until he is presented holding up the club scarf or shirt, having passed his medicals.
However, the move is as good as done, with his agent revealing the details of how the move to Spurs came about, as he rejected a transfer to Bayern Munich in the process.
The Bavarian side offered him more money, but there were other reasons why Dragușin chose Tottenham over the Bundesliga side, and GSP in Romania list three of them.
The first is that the player has always dreamed of playing in the Premier League, which Bayern Munich cannot offer him, but that’s not really their fault.
The second is that he felt far more wanted by Tottenham, who were the ‘first club to take an interest’ in him last summer, and never gave up, pushing ‘every time’ to find an agreement with Genoa, showing him that he is an ‘important player’ in their eyes.
Not only that, but Ange Postecoglou showed himself that he wanted the Romania international in his team, as ‘the two spoke several times on the phone’, which is something Bayern Munich only did later on.
Thirdly, and finally, the player feels he has a better chance of cementing a space at Tottenham, who are in a ‘defensive crisis’, and the competition of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Eric Dier, is ‘not one to frighten’ the young defender.
Meanwhile, at Bayern, Dayot Upamecano is immovable in Thomas Tuchel’s plans, meaning Dragușin would have to fight for the second spot in the defence with Matthijs de Ligt and Kim Min-jae.
