Following Marcus Edwards’ latest appearance against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, the Portuguese media is today full of stories about him.
Many of them talk about the possibility of his return to England, as that has been commented by the player with the English media this week.
It’s well known that Tottenham still have 50% of any transfer Edwards makes, as that was a condition to negotiate his exit from London in 2019.
Early days suggested Spurs would only make a few millions from this deal, since the 23-year-old was never really a big star.
It turns out, however, that things have been changing lately. The striker has five goals and five assists this season, and following this recent goal against Tottenham, Sporting seem to already have big plans for him.
As newspaper A Bola today writes about his situation, they claim that the Lions plan to sell him for a big chunk of money, on the same level as the likes of Nuno Mendes, Matheus Nunes and Bruno Fernandes.
And right now, only something close to his €60m release clause would convince them to negotiate.
So even though Tottenham may not have liked seeing Edwards scoring against them this week, that may have worked to increase his price, with half of that money going to London whenever Sporting find the man.
