Last month, Virtus Entalla sporting director Matteo Superbi admitted he would not be surprised if Tottenham Hotspur decide to make an approach for his former player, Nicolò Zaniolo.
Earlier reports coming out of the Italian press indicated the north London club are closely following the AS Roma star.
Saturday’s edition of Corriere della Sera says the 22-year-old is aware ‘decision time is approaching’. When discussing his suitors, Tottenham Hotspur are tagged.
Juventus are looking at the Italy international and are the only team that could ‘really represent an option’ in Serie A for him.
José Mourinho’s side have a decision to make in the summer; either they sell him for a fee ‘very close’ to €80m or he renews his contract.
Zaniolo’s contract is until 2024 and it includes a €2m per year salary. There are several of his teammates that earn more than him and the ‘economic aspect will be important’ when it comes to signing a new deal at the Italian capital club. However, it will not be the only factor.
Although the attacker is not asking for a guaranteed place in the team, he ‘wants to feel at the centre of the project’.
The report stresses it will be this factor that his agent and Roma ‘have to come together’, likely for a renewal.
With Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs that like the player, both Zaniolo and Roma have a decision to make in the summer.
