Everton have passed up on the opportunity to sign Mauro Icardi, and Tottenham are now said to be considering a move for the striker.
The Argentine’s contract at Galatasaray ran out at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. He scored 16 times last, and was clubcaptain, season but he remains a free agent.
Everton were given the chance to sign him but they never pursued a deal. Lazio’s interest simmered but manager Rino Gattuso has vetoed the move, as he wants Andrea Pinamonti to be their preferred striker.
Now, Tottenham have been pushed as a destination.
Player open to transfer

He is awaiting an ambitious project and this has led to Tottenham being interested in his signature, even though he could only be registered in January.
Regardless, they are evaluating a move, as they could add an experienced player who can add goals to their struggling attack.
Icardi will also be interested in the destination, as Spurs fit the mould of the project he desires. He has rejected several offers, with the next club potentially the last of his career.
Spurs should stay away
There is every chance Tottenham have been offered a chance to sign Icardi. The 33-year-old has, after all, been on the hunt for a club for months and his agents would be at work to find a destination. That is perhaps how contact with Spurs was made.
But this is something Roberto De Zerbi’s side should avoid.
While they could add a striker in January, with Richarlison surely going, the Argentine brings significant baggage with him. He has off-field worries and injury problems have grown in recent years.
De Zerbi has enough problems on his plate in London.
