Jhon Durán’s agent Jonathan Herrera has told El VBar Caracol that Chelsea are interested in the Aston Villa player.
Recent claims in the English press have stated Chelsea are keen on taking the 20-year-old away from Aston Villa in the summer window.
There’s been a suggestion of a swap deal involving the Aston Villa striker and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.
Caracol Radio have relayed that and insist the Colombia international isn’t pleased with his game time at Aston Villa. He’s clocked in just over 1,100 minutes from 37 games this season, scoring eight goals in the process.
Herrera claims his client has a “long-term contract” at Aston Villa, but it won’t stop him from looking at options in the next window.
“He is a player who has a contract with Aston Villa, he ended up doing very well and the coach is counting on him, it is a club that, having got into the Champions League is a great opportunity, but we know he wants to play, he wants to go out and play, we are going to see. Now the market is opening up, the club is looking at some options and so are we,” he said.
The representative was also asked about the recent claims of interest from Chelsea, who parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino on Monday.
When responding to that, he insisted the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge won’t have an impact on the Blues’ interest in the Aston Villa frontman.
“The interest has always been there. The fact that Pochettino continues or leaves the club [shouldn’t affect], the one who want him in the end is the club,” Herrera explained.
“He is a player that if they change coach or not, we will see what happens, but there has always been interest. Let’s see how we can handle it and make sure Aston Villa are ready.”
Aston Villa will have to make a decision on whether or not to retain Durán, if Chelsea were to make an offer for him in the next window.
The player himself may not automatically ditch Villa, given the stability there is at the club and Champions League football.
