Sunderland winger Simon Adingra’s move to Ajax is now in the final stages. It is now a case of dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.
Journalist Mike Verweij reports that the 24-year-old is completing the final steps of his deal to join the Dutch side on loan.
He states that deal with Sunderland for the winger will be a loan deal with an option to buy. Adingra has already passed his medical examination. Completing the deal is now ‘just a matter of time’.
Ajax deal in final stages
Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining that Ajax had made signing the Sunderland winger a priority. He had been identified as the replacement for Mika Godts, who left to join Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.
A loan deal was being worked on, which would see the Dutch side pay €3.8m in wages and transfer fee combined. That deal, reports Verweij, is now in the final stages.
Sunderland are seemingly happy for the winger to move on, particularly after the deadline day signing of Malick Fofana from Lyon.
Adingra already spent the second half of last season at Monaco and is now set to join Ajax in a similar arrangement. All indications are that he is not a part of their plans moving forwards.
Sunderland transfer failure
The winger was a summer purchase from Brighton last summer as the Black Cats spent big on their squad following promotion from the Championship.
But he’s made just 15 appearances totalling 729 minutes since his arrival, despite the €24.4m outlay to sign him initially. Now, after securing €1m from Monaco last year, they’re getting €3.8m from Ajax to help cover those costs.
Whether his loan deal can lead to a transfer next summer, remains to be seen. There is no mention of the value of the purchase clause at this point. For now, the focus appears to be on finalising the deal and getting it done before the Dutch transfer deadline.
