Olympiacos are ‘moving dynamically’ to sign Leon Bailey from Aston Villa and have ‘opened a channel of communication’ with Unai Emery’s side.
Nova Sports report that Bailey has been ‘singled out’ by the Greek side, who are now considering a deal for him.
They state that the winger is on the verge of leaving Aston Villa and Olympiacos have already opened talks with Aston Villa over a deal.
The Greek side are attempting to move the various transfer procedures forward quickly, as their time to do a deal is limited.
European deadline
Their main goal is to close an agreement in time for the 29-year-old to participate in their European obligations. The deadline for submitting the squad for European competition expires in the early hours of Thursday.
There is no mention of what they would like to pay for the Jamaican at this point. Transfermarkt currently values Bailey at €14m but his deal at Villa Park ends next summer.
He is also surplus to requirements after the arrival of Ibrahim Mbaye. Unai Emery has already gone public with his hopes that Bailey can find a move and regular playing time elsewhere.
Olympiacos join suitors
The winger has never truly settled in Birmingham following a €32m move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. He was scheduled to spend last season on loan at Roma. But he was sent back to Aston Villa in the January transfer window instead.
Reports this summer linked him with the likes of Hull City. But that never materialised into a concrete move before the window shut on Tuesday evening.
There is also interest from Saudi Arabia. Several sides there reportedly interested in a deal for the 29-year-old as well.
Now Olympiacos can be added to the mix. Nova Sports say that they are examining the case and working to get a deal done before their European squad deadline.
