Turkish side Trabzonspor have initiated contacts with Monaco to sign Folarin Balogun following the collapse of his deadline day move to Everton.

Journalist Mustafa Karataş reports that Trabzonspor have opened talks with Monaco regarding the 25-year-old ahead of the Turkish window closing on September 4th.

The Ligue 1 side have told the Turkish club that Balogun is their most valuable player and informed them that they will decide on a deal according to the ‘strength’ of the offer.

They are, presumably, determined to get the best deal possible for the American striker following the collapse of his move to Everton.

Deadline day drama

The striker was on Merseyside on Tuesday for deadline to undergo a medical with the Toffees ahead of his move.

Issues arose during that medical then led Everton to renegotiate terms. They eventually submitted a deal sheet late on, believing the transfer would be completed.

Instead, Balogun elected to walk away at the last minute, leaving Thierno Barry as Everton’s only recognised striker until January.

It also caused issues for Monaco, who had needed the sale to ease financial concerns. They had also blocked Lamine Camara’s move to Chelsea in the belief that Balogun’s deal would be completed.

Instead, both players remained at Monaco and both Chelsea and Everton missed out on much needed signings.

Trabzonspor take advantage

Now, it seems Trabzonspor are looking to take advantage. They will perhaps be aware of the re-negotiated terms that Everton managed to agree up on with Monaco yesterday.

They had seemingly talked the Ligue 1 side down from their initial €45m demands. No improved figures came to light during the deadline day drama, though.

Either way, there is a situation to exploit because of it. Trabzonspor know that Monaco need money. Now they’ve opened discussions about a deal, taking advantage of Everton missing out on deadline day.
