West Brom youngster Idrissa Dauda Amihere has been impressing for Italy at the FIFA U17 World Cup.
Seen as a versatile defensive option, has played six times in the tournament, starting four times. He has one goal, finding the back of the net against Uzbekistan in the Round of 16.
While Italy were knocked out in the semi-finals at the hands of Austria, they take on Brazil in the third-place playoff on Thursday.
There’s still Italian excitement about a possible podium finish, and Corriere della Sera cover the West Brom defender today.
The newspaper’s Bergamo edition, explained the Brescia-born youngster has been one of Italy’s better performers during the tournament. There’s local pride being pushed.
To get the point across that he’s been helping out everywhere, Corriere della Sera state: ‘A modern and versatile winger, in coach Favo’s lineup, he has been deployed as a pressing right-back, but has also played as a defender in both defence and midfield.’
Idrissa Dauda Amihere was born to Ghanaian parents who initially moved to Italy and then moved to the United Kingdom. As a result, the teenager is eligible to represent all three countries.
So far, he has committed himself to Italy, having already played five times for their U18s side. Hype around the 17-year-old is clearly growing, and will grow further if he shines against Brazil.
The West Brom youngster is quoted as saying: “Wearing the Azzurri shirt is a unique feeling. Representing the country where I was born and raised before moving to England is something special.”
