Earlier this week, we covered reports which claimed Rangers were in advanced talks to sign Gijs Smal from FC Twente to help out Philippe Clement.

While the Dutch media claimed there was an approach for the player’s potential transfer to Ibrox, reports from Turkey said the move was nearly done.

It turns out that as outlet Twente Fans today shares a story on Smal, they bring some lines which should actually worry Rangers.

The website features quotes from Tijmen van Wissing on RTV which says the fullback is full of flaws, as he hasn’t performed very well in the club’s last few matches.

“Smal, I really think, you can see that, he is not the old Smal. In his rhythm, his speed, the conviction with which he attacks. Regeer and Sadílek are an alternative at that position. By the way, I thought it was a shame that Kjolo is being sacrificed now and also very easy.”

That may be a reason for Rangers fans to be concern, in case the Gers are actually in advanced talks to sign the Dutchman in the coming days.

Smal is a regular starter for Twente, with 13 appearances this season, despite being sidelined for weeks because of a calf injury.

We’re still to see some new updates on Rangers’ attempt to sign the 26-year-old, and that may actually be related to Rıdvan Yılmaz’s departure, as he could be on his way back to Turkey, with Galatasaray pressing for his signing.
