Couhaib Driouech is training fully with PSV Eindhoven, indicating that Rangers’ concerns about his fitness were unfounded.

Rik Elfrink explains the 24-year-old’s situation today following his dramatic, failed move to Ibrox last week.

Couhaib Driouech was a part of PSV’s open training session this week.

While the forward was not yet participating in the practice match, he was taking part in all other aspects of the training sessions. Elfrink says that means the injury which ruined his move to Rangers ‘is not one that will keep him sidelined for six weeks’.

This is what Rangers had ‘assumed’, hence them pulling away from the deal last week.

What happened with the transfer drama

Sport Witness covered the drama around that move throughout last week, including several snipes from the Dutch media.

It started eight days ago, with reports in the Netherland explaining that a deal was in place for Driouech to join Rangers this summer.

All appeared to be going well, but four days later, the whole affair had collapsed. Driouech had spent two days at Ibrox undergoing medical tests.

It was during those tests that Rangers pulled away. They determined that the forward would be out for the longer term. As they wanted an immediate, ready-to-go signing, they were no longer interested.

Dutch response was strong

The Dutch media accused them of taking a nonsensical position on the matter. But those in charge at Ibrox were refusing to move, so the deal was cancelled.

PSV Eindhoven director of football Ernest Stewart then came out and explained at length what had happened.

He made it clear that he felt Rangers had been looking for an issue, which they then found. He, like everyone else in the Netherlands, was less than impressed.

Now it seems the effort to insist that the Scottish side were wrong, is continuing. As Elfrink explains, there is no sign of the long-term injury that they claimed existed.
