Newcastle United have ‘never lost sight’ of Werder Bremen star Karim Coulibaly and could make a move for him in the coming days.
BILD Hamburg report that there is currently movement around the 19-year-old defender and Newcastle would be involved.
Strasbourg have made two bids for the highly rated centre-back. Werder Bremen have rejected both, because they were below €20m.
The French side are considering a third bid. The German side are holding out for €30m as they want to make a ‘significant profit’ on the defender.

Newcastle United in the picture
It remains to be seen whether he ends up in France. That’s because, aside from Strasbourg, there are other clubs interested in the 19-year-old. Newcastle are one of them.
The Magpies have ‘never lost sight’ of the Bremen defender. In fact, they believe that is possible that they will also make a ‘serious move’ in the coming days.
Newcastle United remain interested in Coulibaly and could make their move.
Long-term Magpies interest
Sport Witness have covered Newcastle United’s interest in the youngster for months. That started with a report in March stating that concrete talks had been held over a potential deal.
That picked up again in May, with a report from Germany explaining that Newcastle remained in the mix and were looking to make a bid. The last report, which came just a day after that, explained that Bremen were hoping for a deal to take place.
There has been no mention of Newcastle since that point. Given they have overseen a major squad rebuild and a change in manager in that time – as well as the World Cup taking place – perhaps there is reason for that.
