Earlier this month, El Comercio reported Queens Park Rangers manager Martí Cifuentes really likes Sporting Gijón’s Jonathan Varane.

It was also stated the Championship side have made an offer of around €2m, which didn’t end up convincing the Spanish club.

As well as QPR, FC Metz have shown interest in the 22-year-old if a report from L’Equipe is to be believed.

It’s claimed the London club like the midfielder a lot, and have sent an offer of around €1.2m plus bonuses. Their proposal also includes a percentage of a future sale for Sporting Gijón.

If El Comercio’s earlier report is to be believed, QPR’s latest offer of €1.2m plus bonuses is unlikely to be accepted by the Segunda División side.

The French club, who were relegated from the Ligue 1 last season, are looking to bolster their midfield. They have set their sights on Varane, and could face the risk of missing out on the 22-year-old to Cifuentes’ side.

Metz, unlike QPR, haven’t made an offer to sign Varane so far. L’Equipe state they have ‘decided to take action’ in recent days, indicating that they could table a bid. They need to act fast, considering the English club have already tabled a proposal.
