Derby County summer signing Mohammed Fuseini was on the verge of joining Birmingham City before the move collapsed.

Earlier this week, Sport Witness relayed news of Birmingham City reaching an agreement with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to sign him on loan with an option to buy. He made a trip to England to carry out medical tests with the Blues.

Birmingham City didn’t complete the signing, and he ended up joining Derby County on deadline day.

Derby County’s Mohammed Fuseini was close to joining Birmingham City on deadline day

Footy-Africa initially covered the report of Chris Davies’ side wanting to sign the forward.

The same outlet covers what happened behind the scenes with Birmingham City and his move to Derby County. Footy-Africa also spoke to the Ghana international’s agent, Max Hagmayr.

Mohammed Fuseini made a trip to England to secure a move to St. Andrews. The report adds he completed medical tests and even a photoshoot with Birmingham City.

However, the move didn’t go through and there’s no explanation why the Blues couldn’t get this transfer over the line. The representative is happy that his client was able to secure a quick move to Derby County.

“Finally, it happened at the deadline day,” he said.

Birmingham City failure opens Derby County door

Max Hagmayr reveals multiple clubs across Europe showed interest in the 24-year-old. In the end, he picked Derby County, after the Birmingham City move didn’t go through.

Mohammed Fuseini’s agent confirms another unnamed English club wanted to sign him.

“It’s a great deal for Mohammed Fuseini. We had a lot of interest in Mo. At least we were negotiating concretely with three English teams, one team from Ligue 1 in France and one team from the German Bundesliga,” Hagmayr explained.

“His wish was to enter in the English football. We decided Derby County, a traditional English team which shows him the best future prospects.”

Derby County will face Birmingham City in the Championship on September 12th. This clash provides the Ghanian an opportunity to prove the latter wrong for not signing him.
