Pierluigi Gollini’s last spell in England came when he was at Tottenham Hotspur during the previous campaign.

Spurs took the goalkeeper on a loan deal from Atalanta in 2021 and had an option to make his stay permanent.

He was restricted to 10 appearances in all competitions, out of which six of them came in the UEFA Conference League.

The 27-year-old’s failure to push Hugo Lloris for the No.1 spot saw Tottenham allow him to return to the Serie A side and sign Fraser Forster on a free transfer in the summer.

Gian Piero Gasperini didn’t include the custodian in his plans this season and Atalanta let him join Fiorentina on a loan deal in the last window.

After making three league starts in August, the former Aston Villa man has been reduced to a substitute’s role in Serie A.

Former Italy keeper Lamberto Boranga is of the belief that Gollini’s struggles started after he decided to move to Tottenham in 2021.

“In my opinion, Gollini made an unhappy choice last year when he was at Tottenham. He had to stay in Italy, once abandoned it is hard to return,” Boranga told Radio Firenze Viola.
