Tottenham Hotspur are ‘further away’ from qualifying for the Champions League next season, concedes Richarlison.

On Sunday, Ange Postecoglou saw his side suffer a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, and the result leaves Spurs, currently fifth, with seven points behind fourth placed Aston Villa, with a game in hand.

The Brazil international managed a goal and an assist against Liverpool, after coming off the bench, but that wasn’t enough to help Tottenham seal three points.

ESPN in Brazil had a chat with the forward, and he made it clear that he isn’t pleased with the north London club’s form in recent weeks. Tottenham have suffered defeats in their last four league games and have only two wins in their last eight.

“The last four games haven’t been easy for us. We’re coming off the back of four defeats, which is difficult, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Just work,” he said.

“The next game is at home, of course we wanted to play in the Champions League, we still have a chance, but it’s a bit difficult. There’s nothing we can do, we have to work, go to the next game and see what happens between now and the end of the season.”

Postecoglou arrived at the club last summer and Spurs had a good start to the season, going unbeaten in their first 10 Premier League games. Since then, Tottenham have won 10 of their 25 league games.

Despite this, the 26-year-old insists Tottenham have evolved and he backed his side to further improve the squad in the summer window.

“Look, we presented a much more dynamic and, let’s say, more elegant and beautiful football than last season,” Richarlison explained.

“But we have evolved, we have evolved a lot and I believe that, as of this week, it has already been announced that the coach will make changes, so I believe that next season he’ll be putting together a much more competitive team.”
