Since winning the Brazilian League, where he was elected as the best player, and now preparing to join Nottingham Forest, Gustavo Scarpa can’t stop speaking to the media.

The Palmeiras midfielder has been pretty busy in the past few days, as most local outlets want to have a word with him before he goes to the Premier League.

His move to Nottingham Forest is no secret, and this week we’ve seen manager Abel Ferreira claiming he had some influence in the player’s decision. That’s because Scarpa apparently said he was going somewhere else, and the coach told him to wait for a better offer.

That story is now confirmed by the midfielder himself. He was interviewed today by Band’s show Jogo Aberto, and revealed that he was actually close to agreeing a move to Greece, having then decided to hold on a little.

“I called Abel to talk, at first I was going to Olympiacos and he didn’t like it very much, he said that Greece was not the place for me. He said I had a lot of potential and he wasn’t going to help me with Greece, but if this England thing was true, he just wished me luck and thanked me,” Scarpa told Band.

Still speaking of joining Nottingham Forest, the player claimed he didn’t expect that to happen, especially because of his age and the fact he still has no experience in European football.

“I have dreamed of playing in the Premier League since I was a kid. And I didn’t imagine that this opportunity would appear at the age of 28, even more coming straight from Brazil. So when the chance came, I didn’t think twice.”
