As already announced, Crystal Palace are set to play Botafogo in a friendly in London during the World Cup break.

Since John Textor took over the Brazilian side, they’ve been working on a partnership between the clubs, even though we’re still to see major transfers between them.

It turns out that as O Globo today features a story about Botafogo star Lucas Fernandes, they point out that the midfielder could end up at Crystal Palace in the near future.

The player belongs to Portuguese club Portimonense and is currently having a spell at the Brazilian side, who only need to pay €4m to make his transfer permanent.

Even though the spell lasts until next summer, the purchase suddenly became a subject because he’s been doing well and attracted interest from other clubs.

Globo add that as Botafogo will play Crystal Palace next month, that could impact on the future of some players. Lucas Fernandes himself is said to be a player who John Textor ‘internally confessed’ he could ‘imagine’ at Selhurst Park.

The outlet says the technical staff, however, believe the player lacks intensity to play in the Premier League. It’s just not clear if that’s an opinion from the professionals at Botafogo or Crystal Palace.

So even though the friendly in London may not mean a lot for the clubs, it’s certainly something Fernandes will be looking forward to.
