As Gustavo Scarpa prepares to join Nottingham Forest in January, the Palmeiras midfielder last night had his farewell from the club fans.

The 28-year-old had a great display against América-MG, having been selected as the man of the match, and that’s why he’s been speaking of the ‘farewell of dreams’ he had.

Gustavo Scarpa’s pre-contract with Nottingham Forest was never a surprise for the media, with it being reported it for a while. And even though player had been largely silent about it, only speaking of the move in recent weeks, his manager now explains he knew about it for some time as well.

Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira was interviewed last night and talked about the midfielder’s farewell. He claimed that at first, Scarpa nearly accepted another offer, and it was the coach who told him to wait for something better. The player always had the dream of featuring in the Premier League, and that’s what Nottingham Forest will offer him.

“I don’t want to share what I said to him personally, but we have to go after our dream. I remember arriving here and he was being left aside and little by little he gained confidence. We had several conversations,” said Abel Ferreira (via ESPN).

“I remember in the middle of the year he called me and he said ‘I want to go there.’ I said ‘Where to? No, you won’t go there, I won’t let you go and you shouldn’t go.’ I said that if there was a proposal from a club or a championship with more ambition, I would let him go. And he ended up making the best decision. I already said ‘prepare yourself because you will defend more than here and you will touch the ball much less than here’.”

Gustavo Scarpa will be joining Nottingham Forest as a Brazilian champion, and next week it’s very possible he’ll be chosen as the best player in the league this season.
