Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has told the Turkish media he wants to remain at Çaykur Rizespor ahead of next season.
Shelvey spent last season on loan with the Super Lig side and impressed for the Rize club.
Karadeniz Gazete have today reported on comments made by the Nottingham Forest player in which he said he hoped the two clubs can come to agreement with regards to him remaining in Turkey. Shelvey went on to say he hoped his future would be sorted in the coming days.
“My heart is in favour of staying here, but this does not happen with my will. The two clubs need to come to an agreement. There’s no reason why there shouldn’t be a deal. Hopefully, there will be good news in the coming days,” said the former Liverpool midfielder.
Club director Hasan Yavuz Bakır revealed he hoped to sit down with Nottingham Forest this summer to get a deal done for the 32-year-old, but also said his club don’t have an obligation or option to buy the player on a permanent deal.
Shelvey made 33 appearances for Rizespor last season, scoring 3 goals. He’s contracted to Nottingham Forest until June 2025 and subcequently the Premier League side could look to offload him this summer so they can get some kind of fee.
