On Monday, it emerged that Armand Lauriente’s move to Sunderland fell through due to disagreements between the player’s agent and the Black Cats.

An agreement between Regis Le Bris’ side and Sassuolo was reached and the Frenchman had already boarded a flight to join the pre-season training camp in Portugal. Initially, there was an agreement over personal terms as well.

The dramatic turn of events has left the Italian side frustrated and Il Resto del Carlino note that Lauriente is turning into a ‘problem’ for them.

There is a financial reason behind that, as the €20m fee Sassuolo were set to get, won’t be arriving.

The Neroverdi are aware that the winger wants to leave this summer but there is uncertainty about what state of mind he is in. There are also doubts about whether any other club will be able to pay what the Black Cats were paying, even if Lauriente does interest clubs in Serie A.

This is proving to be a ‘burden’ for Sassuolo, who have already identified replacements for the ex-Lorient player, but they needed money from Sunderland’s offer to unlock incomings.
