On July 10th, we covered claims from Argentina that Manchester City plan to exercise Maher Carrizo’s €16m release clause and send him on loan to River Plate for 18 months.
The 19-year-old’s contract with Vélez Sarsfield expires in December 2026 and it’s unlikely he will end up at River Plate.
That’s according to journalist César Luis Merlo, who discuss Manchester City could sign the forward and send him to Valencia for Picado TV.
He claims there are advanced negotiations with Vélez Sarsfield to buy the Argentina U20 international for a fee less than his €16m clause. The journalist adds he’s unaware of the exact figures.
Both the Premier League side and Los Ches are in some sort of partnership, to sign the young attacker.
César Luis Merlo doesn’t make it clear what sort of partnership it would be between the two clubs. It’s possible that Pep Guardiola’s side will buy Carrizo and send him on loan to Valencia.
Valencia based journalist Julio Insa took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that it is impossible for Carrizo to arrive at Mestalla if Manchester City were to buy him. He adds their first preference would be to send him on loan to Girona.
While César Luis Merlo reports the negotiations are advanced, there seems to be a lack of clarity on Manchester City’s plan for Carrizo.
