The close ties between Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and Botafogo’s majority shareholder John Textor continue to shape the summer transfer window, with yet another deal concluded between the clubs.
The signing of midfielder Danilo marks the third move between the two clubs in this window alone, following the arrivals of Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha to Forest.
As reported by the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo, this pattern of business is strongly supported by the growing personal and commercial relationship between Marinakis and Textor, who have intensified cooperation in recent months.
According to the same report, the two businessmen are not only exchanging talent but also discussing potential joint initiatives in youth development, possibly involving other clubs in Marinakis’ network such as Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
While the deals reflect Marinakis’ direct influence at Forest, they are also facilitated by Textor’s increasing flexibility outside his main holding company, Eagle Football Holding.
An article from O Globo claims the American executive is now restructuring his football assets by creating a new group based in the Cayman Islands, from which he intends to operate Botafogo and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek independently.
The move would free Botafogo from the financial constraints linked to Eagle’s French asset, Lyon, which is currently subject to spending restrictions.
The player flow between Botafogo and Nottingham Forest, then, is not only a matter of sporting opportunity but also a reflection of a strategic alliance rooted in mutual trust and growing business synergy.
Whether further moves will follow remains to be seen, but the trend suggests an increasingly active axis between Brazil and England, shaped by the alignment between Marinakis and Textor.
