Following Newcastle United’s 4-1 win over Paris Saint Germain last night, you could see the joy in the eyes of all the Magpies’ players who gave interviews after the match.

Bruno Guimarães was one of them, as he spoke to Brazilian media TNT Sports about how great things have been for him at St. James’ Park.

In quotes covered by us earlier today, the midfielder claimed to be living a ‘fairy tale’ at Newcastle, saying he took a long shot when choosing to sign for the Magpies, and the recent results have been proving him right.

Now in other bits of the interview, he also talked about his personal aspirations at the club, claiming he’s working to become one of the best players in the world.

Guimarães believes his current form in the Premier League does place him highly among other players in that position, with him claiming he’s working hard to get even better.

“Look, it’s hard to talk about yourself. People can understand as ego, maybe but I believe I’m performing well in the Premier League,” the Brazilian told TNT Sports.

“I think since I’ve been here, only Rodri has better numbers than me. Like goals, participation in goals. So I believe I’m on the right track. Always with one foot on the ground.

“I’m very happy here, I want to continue performing. I think in the national team, already with Diniz in the last game, I participated a lot, I gave an assist. I have good numbers in the national team.

“My goal is to become, without a doubt, one of the best in the world. This is my goal, one of the best midfielders. I wake up early to train every day for this. I believe we will continue on this path.”

Since arriving at Newcastle, Guimarães has 11 goals and eight assists in 67 games . Not bad for a central midfielder who has many other obligations on the pitch.
