Newcastle United can turn to Javi Rodríguez as an alternative, with him also interesting Everton, Fulham and PSG.

The 23-year-old came up through the ranks of Celta Vigo’s academy and made his first team debut in 2023. He played 90 matches, with most of them as a centre-back and only six as a right-back.

Last season, he 46 appearances and established himself as a key player under Claudio Giráldez. This helped him make his debut for Spain in June.

Javi Rodríguez’s impressive performances last season and his debut for Spain have seen him attract interest from several cubs.

PSG are the ‘most prominent’ suitor, led by their advisor, Luis Campos. He held the same role at Celta Vigo between 2022 and 2023. The Ligue 1 winners have made an initial approach but haven’t made advances since then.

Luis Enrique’s side aren’t the only club in the picture as Newcastle United, Everton and Fulham are also keen. The three clubs have also made enquires in recent weeks, without the report specifying whether they contacted his agent or Celta Vigo.

Rodríguez has a contract until 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €18m. Faro de Vigo states that contract includes a €40m release clause.

It’s not ruled out for his suitors to make a ‘multi-million euro offer’ in the last days of the window. Should that happen, neither the versatile defender not Celta Vigo could turn it down.
