Newcastle United believe AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has the right ‘personality qualities’ they are looking for, with a move being weighed up from July 1st.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who insist Newcastle are keen on the defender and eyeing up a move once the new financial year comes into play.
The newspaper covers how reports from outside of Italy have linked Newcastle with a move for Thiaw as they look to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad this summer.
They then report the German is ‘highly appreciated’ by the Magpies for his physical stature and his ‘personality qualities’, both of which they believe would allow him to fit in well in the Premier League.
They’re yet to make any sort of move for him and Milan are waiting to see if this approval leads to the sanctioning, or justification, of spending €30m to secure his signature.
Any move would also be held off until the start of next month, presumably because that is the start of the new financial year in terms of Profit and Sustainabiltiy rules in the Premier League.
Corriere echo reports from elsewhere that say Newcastle have to sell before they can buy because of those rules and so any move for Thiaw would be held off until July 1st at least.
The prevalent idea is to sell Yankuba Minteh and secure a major profit on him before then using that money to ‘launch themselves vigorously’ for new signings and the centre-back Eddie Howe wants to partner Sven Botman.
Thiaw is at the top of the list and Milan would open the door to a transfer if they received an offer of around €30m for him. Newcastle, though, need to move other pieces on the chessboard before the end of this month before they can make such a bid.
