Over at Newcastle United, there has been an idea of reuniting Sven Botman with Tiago Djaló, with the two forming a good defensive pair at Lille.

The Magpies fought off Milan to sign the Dutchman over the summer, and now they could be in with a fight with Inter for the Portuguese centre-back.

Previous reports have stated that Newcastle could be ready to start off the bidding for the defender at around €20m.

It began in January, but that deal was never struck, as the player stayed in France and Eddie Howe never signed a new centre-back, but this summer could be different.

The idea of a €20m bid came back towards the end of February, but there’s a new obstacle to overcome now, and that’s the fact Djaló has just suffered a ‘anterior cruciate ligament rupture’; in other words his ACL.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who state the latest scans on his right knee after he came off against Lens have confirmed the worst, and his season is over as he  ‘will be operated on soon’.

This is a huge blow for Lille, and potentially one for Newcastle too, as a lot will depend on how long Djaló is out for, because that could cost him and the French side a potential transfer in the summer.
