As AC Milan get desperate about the contract renewal of Rafael Leão, Chelsea and Manchester City are labelled as the biggest threats to take him away from the Rossoneri.

As written today by Calcio Mercato, the player’s deal with the Serie A giants expires in 14 months. And with no agreement for an extension, the club just can’t afford to think of losing him for free next year.

Premier League clubs are said to have been in contact for the transfer ‘for several weeks’, and even though Chelsea ‘remain in the running’, Manchester City have now entered the race ‘decisively’.

It’s claimed that Leão’s name is ‘marked in red’ by Pep Guardiola, and the Blues need to ‘watch their backs’ in this competition.

Even though the midfielder even has the desire to stay at Milan, that hasn’t turned into a contract extension yet, partly because the Rossoneri still need to sort the pending issues with his former club Sporting.

That complicated scenario only favours the interested sides, with Chelsea and Manchester City named as ‘the most authoritative candidates’ to land the player. Leão is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €85m, but if Milan feel forced to sell him in the summer, that price could become a little unpredictable.
