Bruno Guimarães has been instrumental for Newcastle United since he joined them from Lyon in January 2022.
The midfielder has nine goals and four assists from 42 matches in all competitions since the start of last year, out of which four goals and three assists came this season.
Newcastle haven’t lost a league game when Guimarães was on the pitch this season. They have suffered two defeats and both came against Liverpool, which the 25-year-old missed due to an injury and suspension.
The Brazil international’s contract expires in 2026 and the Magpies are looking to further extend his deal.
That’s according to iG Esporte, who state Eddie Howe’s side have ‘started talks’ with the star to renew his contract. It’s claimed the new deal will see the South American receive a hike in his salary because of the importance he has at the Tyneside club.
Guimarães’ fine displays for the Premier League side have attracted attention from other European clubs and there’s expectation Newcastle would be approached by these teams in the summer.
The Magpies extending the player’s contract beyond 2026 would at least help them fend off interest from other clubs for the next window.
