Newcastle United, Arsenal and Aston Villa are among the clubs in the mix to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach star Marcus Thuram in the summer.
The striker has a deal expiring in June and the Bundesliga side seem to have given up on extending his contract.
That’s according to Sport, who state the 25-year-old’s situation has alerted several clubs, including Newcastle, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
The report mainly focuses on Barcelona’s desire to sign the France international for free. He is ‘performing at a high level’ and has managed 13 goals and four assists from 20 games in all competitions this season.
Thuram is also on the agenda of Newcastle, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla. Despite this, there are a few factors that favour Xavi Hernández’s side to secure his services.
His father, Lilian, was at Barcelona for two seasons between 2006 and 2008 and Thuram Sr has recently admitted he would love to see Marcus play for the Blaugrana.
With Gladbach seeming to accept defeat in retaining Marcus after this season, it’ll be interesting to see who among Newcastle, Arsenal, Aston Villa and other interested clubs will be able to sign him for free.
