Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have taken notice of Nuno Tavares’s rise at Lazio this season.

That’s at least what La Lazio Siamo Noi are reporting, and they name Newcastle and Nottingham Forest as the left-back’s interest parties.

The left-back made 26 appearances this season and registered nine assists in the process.

Tavares joined them on loan from Arsenal and the Serie A club have an obligation to make his stay permanent for €5m. The Gunners have a 40% sell-on clause.

The Italian club will have to make a decision if other clubs approach the 25-year-old in the summer window.

Their chairman, Claudio Lotito, has set a €70m price tag for the Portugal international. It was before his injury in March [still on the sidelines], and his performance dropped.

La Lazio Siamo Noi state the Biancocelesti would take any offers of €55m and above into consideration. This will help them make profit, which would be needed if Lazio [currently seventh in the table] don’t make it Europe next season.

Newcastle and Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have set their sights on the fullback, but it’s not clear whether they will make an offer for him.

Tavares was on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, where he failed to impress. Last month, the defender revealed he was forced to join the Reds and knew he would struggle with them.

Taking this into account, he may not accept a move back to Nottingham Forest. This could give the Magpies an advantage over their Premier League rivals.
