Earlier today, we covered claims from Spanish newspaper AS which explained Monchi’s trip to Spain on Friday has advanced Aston Villa’s efforts to sign Óscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo.
Monchi was at Friday’s match between Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo, and the trip was related to convincing Mingueza to move to Aston Villa this month.
The AS report stated it’s now a case of getting the yes from Mingueza, with AC Milan and AS Roma also keen on the former Barcelona player.
Diario de Almeria have another take. They relay Spanish journalist Ángel García making it clear Monchi has a clear alternative if Mingueza decides to reject Aston Villa.
According to Garcia, Mingueza is more tempted by the Rossoneri right now, although that’s not being reported elsewhere. He also states Celta Vigo would prefer to sell to RB Leipzig because they’ve agreed to loan Mingueza back for the rest of the season… but AS stated Leipzig have walked away.
Regardless, Should Aston Villa be rejected, it’s explained Monchi has Almeria’s Marc Pubill as his alternative. The 21-year-old has a €40m clause in his contract and has progressed this season after a failed move to Atalanta.
Aston Villa may not have to go as high as that €40m if they enter negotiations with Almeria.
