On November 4th, Africa Foot reported Southampton have joined Middlesbrough in the chase for FC Metz’s Cheikh Sabaly.

Boro’s interest isn’t new as they reportedly came close to securing his services in the summer. Middlesbrough aren’t ready to give up on the 26-year-old.

That’s according to a fresh report from Africa Foot, who cover the latest on Southampton and Middlesbrough interest.

Southampton are still in the running, but their Championship rivals, who appointed Kim Hellberg as their new manager this week, are now in ‘pole position’.

The winger is in his final year of contract, and his future is most likely to be away from the Ligue 1 side.

It’s claimed Middlesbrough could offer around €5m in January to acquire his services. Africa Foot state the French club is ‘obliged to find a solution to this situation’.

In other words, Metz will consider offers for Sabaly in January. This way, they can avoid losing the Senegal international for free next summer.

With Metz open to a sale, Middlesbrough have to convince Sabaly to maintain the lead in the transfer race.

He has two assists from 11 matches this season.
