There’s absolutely nothing wrong in dreaming and aiming high, but for Sofyan Amrabat perhaps it’s time to let go of his Manchester United desires.
For the entire summer, the Italian media have been saying on an almost daily basis that Amrabat, having been on loan at Old Trafford last season, very much wanted a return there.
It was said to be occupying his thoughts, with it driven home so much that Amrabat strolling along the banks of the Arno whistling Glory Glory Man United would have been no surprise.
Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport says, quite simply, Manchester United ‘will not satisfy’ Fiorentina’s demands – put at €15m – for the midfielder.
And that… is that.
They don’t make it clear whether a bargain effort has been made or whether Amrabat’s agents finally gave up their efforts of persuasion, but they seem pretty certain it’s over.
Indeed, despite it all appearing very unlikely just weeks ago, Amrabat could now stay with La Viola and rebuild bridges.
Of course, it’s not so bad for Sofyan. Living in Tuscany and playing Serie A football isn’t quite a doom punishment.
