There’s a fresh update from Brazil regarding Manchester United’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper, with Goal Brasil reporting that John Victor, currently at Botafogo, is now considered the club’s main target for the position.

According to the outlet, the Red Devils have been in contact with the player’s entourage since December 2024, shortly after John played a key role in Botafogo’s historic campaign that ended with league and Copa Libertadores titles.

While no official bid has been submitted to the Brazilian side yet, a proposal is expected in the coming days.

The 28-year-old’s release clause for foreign clubs is set at €7.4m (£6.2m), a figure that would need to be paid in full to bypass negotiations with Botafogo.

Goal adds that another Premier League club has also approached the goalkeeper’s camp in recent days, but John still prioritises a move to Old Trafford. The situation will only move forward once United decide whether to go ahead with a formal bid.

Earlier this year, the player’s agent, Pedro Gutierrez, revealed that multiple European clubs, including Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur, had shown interest in the Botafogo star.
