Manchester United have been credited with interest in River Plate rising star Franco Mastantuono. This was initially reported in the UK and has been backed up in Spain and Argentina.

A ‘confidential’ report from Wednesday’s edition of Sport covers the latest on Manchester United.

On Sunday, the Argentine club host Boca Juniors and clubs from across Europe, including Manchester United, are set to follow the 17-year-old in the Superclásico.

The Argentina U20 international is on the radar of Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Red Devils and Liverpool lead his suitors from the Premier League.

The newspaper states the two English clubs have ‘already made moves’, without providing any further explanation.

Mastantuono, who has an Italian passport, has a €45m clause, and River Plate want interested parties to pay this fee to secure his services. They are rubbing their hands as his sale can be the biggest in Argentina.

The attacking midfielder’s future could be decided in the ‘coming weeks’, before or after the Club World Cup.

Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share more on Ruben Amorim’s side.

He claims Manchester United are the club to have shown ‘most interest’, with a view to sign him in the summer window. They have sent their officials to Argentine to monitor him and continue to watch him closely.

Merlo adds Manchester United are aware the only way to sign the player is by activating his €45m clause.
