Sunday’s edition of AS reported that Real Madrid have backed away from a ‘war’ to sign Christian Eriksen, because they’re apprehensive of how Daniel Levy will approach the transfer situation.

Despite the Spanish newspaper believing Eriksen won’t renew his contract with Spurs, which ends in June 2020, AS don’t believe Madrid are in the race any longer.

Manchester United are named as one of the clubs who still are.

The Premier League team haven’t been so strongly linked to Eriksen, but it’s stated they’re in the ‘fight’ along with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Tottenham will become more nervous the longer the Denmark international goes without signing a new contract. Come the summer, he’ll have less than a year left on the current deal and the prospect of a free transfer will appear on the horizon.

It would be no surprise for top clubs like Manchester United to keep on top of the situation, but a move in the summer is going to be difficult.

Whilst Levy and Spurs will want to avoid the chance of a free exit, a huge discount and easy transfer in the summer doesn’t seem overly likely.
