Manchester City want to strengthen their midfield by signing FC Porto’s Nico González in the winter market.

The Premier League club have made an offer of €50m and it has been rejected by Porto.

That’s according to Jornal de Notícias, who state the Dragons will only let him leave if his €60m clause is activated.

The Portuguese club invested €8.4m to Barcelona buy the Spaniard in July 2023. Barca will receive 40% of the capital gain and it’ll be reduced to 20% if Porto pay them €6m.

A Bola state Manchester City insist on acquiring the midfielder’s services on deadline day.

Jorge Mendes is acting as an intermediary as his agency, Gestifute, will receive 10% of the fee. This clause was inserted by Porto’s previous management. The current leadership have informed Manchester City that they have to pay €60m to sign González.

He’s pleased with the interest show by the Citizens and being valued by Pep Guardiola. A Bola state the English champions could possible table an ‘irrefutable proposal’ before the window closes later today.

Monday’s edition of O Jogo states Manchester City haven’t given up despite Porto turning down their €50m bid.

Manchester City ‘could up the ante’ by improving their offer to reach €60m or get close to this figure by including variables.

For now, the Lisbon club are resitting, even though they aware González is ‘excited’ about playing under Guardiola.

Manchester City can return with an improved proposal and if that happens, Porto have a decision to make.
