Sporting Club de Portugal manager Rui Borges has insisted that he has no problem with Marcus Edwards as he gears up to join Burnley.
Record cover comments from the Sporting boss today on Edwards, who appears to be on the verge of joining Burnley on loan.
Edwards has been linked with a move away from Sporting for months after falling out of favour with the club.
There have been various reports about the 26-year-old criticising his attitude and stating that Sporting had grown tired of dealing with him. That led them to want to get rid of him at any cost in the January transfer window.
Borges, though, insists he has no personal problems with the player and instead decided to focus on the positives for Sporting.
“I have no problem with him, he’s a good kid,” he answered when asked about whether Edwards’ departure is ‘a relief’.
“If he leaves, it’s a sale of the club, releasing a player who isn’t a solution, that’s all. Edwards isn’t a solution for the coach, it’s not a problem at all.”
On that front, journalist Sebastião Sousa Pinto confirms reports from England that Edwards will leave Sporting for Burnley on loan with an option to buy.
That option to buy will become a mandatory clause, valued at €10m, if Burnley are promoted back to the Premier League. Sporting will keep a small percentage of any future profit Burnley make on him.
