Flirting is a discreet art, particularly when it comes to flirting between managers and players. Sadly, that’s been lost on Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva this week.
Mundo Deportivo have the latest, with Simeone responding to comments by the Wolves man made earlier this week.
Silva kicked things off on this potential love affair earlier this week by signing the praises of Atletico Madrid when asked about them.
He’s set to take them on with Las Palmas this weekend, looking to continue his superb season with the Spanish side that’s seen him score 10 goals and register three assists in 23 games.
That’s seen him linked with Atletico as a result and he was more than happy for that to be the case, signing their praises and making his admiration for them known.
“Atlético Madrid is one of the best teams in the world, but right now I’m only focused on the goal of saving Las Palmas, and the future will be revealed,” he said when asked about the transfer rumours.
That did not go unnoticed and in his own press conference this week, Simeone was keen to do a little flirting back as he praised the Wolves loanee, highlighting his physical strength in particular.
“Fabio is a guy who works incredibly hard, physically strong, and puts a tremendous amount of effort into everything he generates within his attack, and any coach who has him appreciates that work,” he said about the Portuguese striker.
Now, we’re not too keen on putting two and two together but when it’s as obvious as this, it’s hard to ignore.
Silva has made it clear he wants to leave Wolves permanently this summer and would like to stay in Spain, while reports this week have made it clear Las Palmas can’t afford him, even if they stay up.
Atletico Madrid could afford a fee and with Antoine Griezmann seemingly heading to MLS, will have an open slot in their forward line to fill too.
That’s too many pieces falling into place too easily to be a coincidence for us, so we’d keep an eye on Silva to Atletico from Wolves closely from here on out, particularly with him and Simeone now engaged in open flirting to the press too.
