Leeds United are ‘well placed’ to complete a deal to sign Hidemasa Morita from Sporting this summer, but a lot will depend on the the 29-year-old’s attitude towards a potential renewal and the Portuguese club playing bluff, reports Friday’s edition of Record.
The midfielder’s contract in Lisbon expires at the end of June 2026. He’s been reluctant to sign a renewal because at this stage of his career he’d like to try a new adventure elsewhere.
Morita is said to be tempted by the prospect of moving to the Premier League, and that would obviously be a boost for Leeds United.
The Whites recently clinched promotion and are now more attractive to potential signings.
Record explain that even though Morita wants out this summer, Sporting haven’t ruled out keeping him until the end of his contract in 2026.
That is unless someone pays them around €8m.
It feels like posturing to develop a negotiating position and try to then enter talks from a position of strength. Leeds United will be aware of that but will likely still try to get that €8m figure down if they’re to do a deal.
